SUVA, Aug 16 Asia in Focus - More Fiji soldiers could be getting specialised training in China soon, according to Fiji's leader, Commodore Frank Bainimarama. Speaking to the Fiji Sun, Bainimarama confirmed that plans are already underway to continue with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces engagement with China's People's Liberation Army (PLA).
* "China has already trained some of our officers which we send every year and we wish to continue with that," Bainimarama said, adding that with strengthened ties between the two countries could mean that more opportunities for soldiers to train there.
* It has been confirmed that the Chinese Government is on the verge of releasing a US$5 million grant to the military's engineering unit, which Bainimarama said the grant would be used to improve the standards of their engineering unit.
