  • Governance Resource for Fiji Freedom Activists

Primary Objective of Good Governance : To make aid and development more effective in third world countries that have corrupt, unaccountable, leadership.

Hence, governance is the process of decision making and the process by which decisions are implemented or not. It is a set of values, policies and institutions by which society manages its economic, political and social processes at all levels through interaction between government, civil society and the private sector.

Good governance is based on broad consensus in society in which the voices of citizens, in particular the less able are heard and respected in decision making over the allocation of resources.

Common Elements of Good Governance as it relates to the Fiji Islands is as follows :

    1. Leadership Accountability: Abrogated
    2. Citizen Participation: Abrogated
    3. Transparency in decision making and allocation of resources : Abrogated
    4. The rule of law: Abrogated
    5. Institutional Responsiveness: Selective
    6. Equity and Inclusiveness: Selective
    7. Efficiency and Effectiveness: Failed
    8. Consensus Building : Inconsistent

The following Handbook will be an invaluable tool for all Activists that genuinely wish to understand the absolute importance of good governance as well as the processes involved and thereby independently evaluate the policy decisions of the illegal military government of Fiji vis-a-vis productivity (outcome) which would form the very foundation upon which effectiveness of aid and technical assistance from the International Community and Institutions would be evaluated.

Why is this important? In our simple understanding, if funds are disbursed by donors to build a bridge and same is used to stockpile more embargoed arms then what happens to future aid moneys to an odious government?

Our philosophy has and will always be that the final solution to permanent democracy in Fiji is when the 'life line' is cut simultaneously with a coup and there will be many more coups in Fiji until there is 'cross conditionality' in funding rouge states, because then the flawed 'humanitarian' considerations will not be there as a safety net any more and there will be a coordinated response which is why it will be crucial in our not to distant future to form a one world government that speaks with one voice and have one policy on rouge states to bring lasting peace and prosperity in our World.

The effectiveness of compelling respect for democracy, rule of law and human rights is only as robust as the weakest link, and the weakest link are those governments and the institutions controlled by those governments that have had the POWER to have resolved this impasse swiftly a long time ago, but have chosen not to because of their own selfish strategic interest in the Pacific when World War 3 is upon us within the next decade.
