India and Russia on Monday reiterated their "deep and longstanding ties" by signing six agreements on defence and nuclear cooperation, cultural ties and economic relations and by reiterating their resolve to fight global terrorism.
They also indicated that the Bric (Brazil, Russia, India and China) grouping would play an increasingly important role in world affairs.
Addressing a joint press conference with Russian President Dimitry Medvedev after witnessing the signing of the six agreements at the Kremlin, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said: "Our cooperating (on counter-terrorism) can extend to the international level. We share intelligence and can pressurise countries that give shelter or encouragement to terrorist activities."
Though he didn't mention Pakistan by name, it was clear he was referring to that country.
Earlier, reading out from a prepared text, Singh said: "Relations between India and Russia are characterised by deep and mutual trust and confidence." Singh and Medvedev also agreed to "take concrete steps to expand cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector".
