  • The 8 Ball has been Placed

On 2nd March 2005 our lawful government had endorsed the Paris Declaration which broad objectives are to reduce poverty and inequality, increase growth, build capacity, and accelerate achievement of the MDG's.

It sets a framework to work towards taking ownership of the purpose for which International aid would be channeled toward, by aligning government policy in key national priorities to ensure accountability, effectiveness and harmony to achieve quantifiable results.

Our membership within the Pacific Islands Forum is vital to the future availability of foreign aid to Fiji from our key donor agencies namely ADB, AusAID, European Commission, Japanese International Corporation Agency, NZAID and all UN agencies.

These are the agencies that have built Fiji and its peoples after having being left with a British Legacy since Independence to have brought us as close as possible to civilization by their development assistance in key areas including but not limited to Health, Education, Water, Transportation, Agriculture, Rural Development and Law & Justice, Governance, Gender, Private Sector Development and Child Protection, basically “what really matters”.

The Republic of Fiji's first and last survey on Harmonization and Alignment with the Paris Declaration was conducted by our previous lawful government. Since the 2006 coup nothing constructive has transpired under Frank Bainimarama's military government for nearly three years. As a direct result of Frank Bainimarama's failure, in Tony Gates words, the “ordinary people” will suffer.

The perception by Frank Bainimarama that he can continue to misgovern without being a member of the Pacific Islands Forum, the Commonwealth of Nations and without the blessing of the Australian Federal Government as the officially endorsed voice of the “Pacific” at the G-20 level will be fatal to the future development, intergration and prosperity of the Fiji Islands.

We will not elaborate on the severe latent consequences of Frank Bainimarama's arrogance, ignorance and naivety in not accelerating our return to full membership within the Commonwealth and Pacific Islands Forum, suffice to say that the global environment that existed in 1987 and 2000 is intrinsically incomparable to our present new world order, which underlying rationale by Frank to be indifferent to our membership of these regional organizations will prove disastrous for Fiji. It's elementary dear Watson and it will radically alter the one strand of twine that is left for Sada Reddy for all the wrong reasons, just as an 8 ball gets placed before the finale in a game of pool.

We can almost hear the lali beat in the background as the sound of the conch shell begins to signal the beginning of the end.
