NZ Immigration Refutes Aiyaz Khaiyum Malicious Statement
Immigration New Zealand is denying reports that a Fiji High Court judge has been denied a visa for her 20-month-old child, to undergo an urgent eye operation at Starship Hospital.
Fiji's Attorney-General says Justice Anjala Wati was told her visa application had been rejected because she took up her judicial position under the military regime.
But head of Immigration Andrew Annakin says the visa has not been denied. He says the application is still being processed as it was lodged late last week.
Mr Annakin says New Zealand maintains travel restrictions against certain people following the 2006 coup. But he says it has consistently shown flexibility where humanitarian, medical or compassionate grounds have been substantiated.
