  • New Zealand to Snub Frank at UN General Assembly

Key to avoid Bainimarama in New York

There is one person the Prime Minister will be hoping to avoid while in New York.

A hundred world leaders are converging on the Big Apple for a UN gathering on Climate Change.

John Key is among them. So is Fiji's Frank Bainimarama, who will be addressing the UN General Assembly.

Mr Key says the Commodore is likely to try to use the occasion as a platform to argue his case to defer democratic elections.

"I certainly won't be going to the speech. But it will be interesting to see whether he's showing any signs of wanting to hold democratic elections prior to 2014."

Mr Key says he has not seen any sign of that. (Newstalk ZB 09-22-09)

Also according to the Wall Street Journal timetable, Frank Bainimarama is scheduled to address the General Assembly of the United Nations and FIJI is slotted in to speak on SATURDAY 26th September just after 3pm NY time.

So it really and truly seems like King Frank will be talking to the WALLS, while everyone else is out shopping and preparing for the evening dinner dance, no time for tin pot Dictators aye.
