  • Fiji Leadership Disconnect and the Commonwealth of Nations

Well well well what have we here Frank?

I told you that you will beg, but before we get to that lets recap on your Governments Arrogance first, as published in the Fiji Times.

    Fiji Times 31 July, 2009

    Commonwealth technical assistance 'is small'

FIJI'S expulsion from the Commonwealth would not have economic repercussions.

Former Cabinet Sec-retary and retired civil servant Jioji Kotobalavu said the Commonwealth Technical assistance to Fiji was small compared to the European Union.

Today the nine members of the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) meet in London to decide whether Fiji should be expelled or not.

"Fiji is already suspended from the Common-wealth councils," he said.

"Whether Fiji is expelled would have very little economic consequences for Fiji because the Comm-onwealth Technical assistance is very modest.

"The only real loss is that Fiji will not be invited to attend Commonwealth heads of government meetings and at ministerial meetings." Mr Kotobalavu said while the Fiji's relationship was historical, our economic ties to the EU were more important.

"For us the most important thing is our market for export, tourism and where we can source capital for investment," he said.

"Expulsion from the Commonwealth would have no effect on the sugar market because that is governed by the Lome Convention between the ACP and EU."

The EU have frozen their Sugar Reform Aid Frank what you people talking about, there won't be any sugar to sell anyway under Lome?

THE Commonwealth has been invited to send a delegation to Fiji. This follows the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) meeting in London last week.

A statement from Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama says his administration cherished its membership of the Commonwealth and urgently looked forward to engaging CMAG. "It also believes that the Commonwealth can partner with Fiji to resolve its long-standing systemic and structural challenges," the statement said.

"It is in this respect that the Fijian Government looks forward to engaging CMAG with urgency."

Stop Telling Lies Frank and read this again slowly:

"CMAG urged the Fiji regime to immediately reactivate the President’s Political Dialogue Forum process, facilitated by the Commonwealth and the United Nations. CMAG stressed that such a Dialogue must be independent, inclusive, time-bound and without any pre-determined outcome, and lead to credible elections in the country no later than October 2010."
