Commonwealth Ministerial Group to Expel Fiji
The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group will expel Fiji from the Commonwealth of Nations imminently.
This unanimous decision follows Frank Bainimarama's willful defiance of CMAG's 8th December 2006 statement at its extraordinary meeting and more specifically its call for Frank to restore Constitutional rule with immediate effect, to adhere to principles of good governance, the rule of law and most importantly respect the human rights of its citizens.
The practical effect of this expulsion will be the termination of all existing technical assistance to Fiji procured through the Commonwealth.
The expulsion would also include 'positive measures' to veto support for access to funding programs and technical assistance from the IMF, World Bank and most importantly the Asian Development Bank via the United States of Americas affirmation of its own foreign policy which is analogous with that of the Commonwealth family.
Review of funding and assistance by these institutions to Fiji will be coordinated to include 'cross conditionality' with a time frame to restore democracy within the 1997 Constitution.
It is expected that an extraordinary meeting of CMAG will take place imminently and will coincide with Fiji's official expulsion from the Pacific Islands Forum.
This double whammy expulsion is intended to send a clear message from the international community that it will not tolerate any further deceit and chronic lies by Frank Bainimarama and his terrorist linked military government.
