A partial eclipse will be seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of eastern Asia, Indonesia, and the Pacific Ocean.
Eleven tsunamis have been recorded in Fiji, of which three were generated within Fiji waters. The most damaging tsunami was in 1953. The 1953 disaster showed that tsunamis are most dangerous when generated by earthquakes close to you, as you do not get any other warning that a tsunami may have been generated.
Fiji is also within the Pacific Ring of Fire. The Pacific Ring of Fire is the zone of earthquakes and volcanoes that surrounds the Pacific Ocean. The zone covers almost all Pacific Rim island countries such as Japan, Chile the United States and nearby Tonga, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
Despite Fiji having only a few active volcanoes and fewer earthquakes compared to most of the areas mentioned, the risks it has from these two hazards are quiet high by world standards. These risks are low frequency but have a high impact and should it occur we do not have the resources to respond simply because our Military government have invested NO MONEY in risk reduction for the past two and a half years.
We have around two weeks to prepare for a natural disaster should the 22nd July eclispe of the sun cause a predicted tsunami in the region as a result of tectonic plate movement including within the Pacific Ring of Fire.
But not in our country, just like all other threats including the recent biological and viral risks, our illegal regime and their mentally challenged military buffoon Commander have NO IDEA and NO PLAN for Earthquakes or Tsunami's because they simply do not care for the people, so just like the recent tornado last week in the lau group they like to play the 'after the event' game of sweet 'hot air' and suppress the story from publication in the Fiji Times.
